Accessing Oxford University Press E-books: Unlocking Digital Learning and Research

On 30th January 2025, the Central Library of Tezpur University successfully organised an awareness programme titled “Accessing Oxford University Press E-books: Unlocking Digital Learning and Research”.


OVERVIEW

Mr. Anuj Kumar Singh, Information Scientist, extends his warm welcome to all the participants as well as to the resource person, Mr. Kinsuk Chakraborty, Senior Territory Manager (Academics) from Oxford University Press. Further, he emphasized the significance of the session, which helps us in the utilization of e-books, which are being subscribed to by the university and other open-access materials available at the Oxford Academic platform.


PRESENTATION BY THE RESOURCE PERSON

Mr. Kinsuk Chakraborty starts delivering an insightful overview of Oxford University Press and its resources, which are currently being accessed by Tezpur University. He also shows the pattern of resources through charts & graphs that are being searched by the Tezpur University community.  

Apart from the presentation, hands-on demonstrations on the Oxford Academic platform were also covered to explore the subscribed e-books as well as some various features like:-

  • Magnifier Search: A smart search tool to directly browse all the purchased, open and free access contents.
  • Availability of Content: A filter that helps to distinguish the subscribed contents.
  • Metric Information: Useful for getting the information related to altmetric, citations and the number of views for each content.
  • Citations: A helpful tool to get the citations in various modern formats such as .bibtex (BiblioTex), .ris (Mendeley, Papers, Zotero), .enw (EndNote), & .txt (Medlars, RefWorks).
  • Split-View: A way to view and easily navigate to the chapter's content and its associated headings.
  • Many more…

The presentation & demonstration was interactive, allowing participants to engage actively and clarify doubts regarding platform functionalities.

 

Q&A SESSION

Following the presentation, participants actively participated in a Q&A session. Questions ranged from access to non-subscribed materials, thesis and dissertations on the OUP platform, and APC for publishing books, chapters or articles. Additionally, Dr. Gautam Kumar Sarma, Dy. Librarian also sought clarification on access to e-journals under the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative as well as steps for publishing books and journal articles.

The Q&A session facilitated a deeper understanding of the platform and its offerings, fostering meaningful exchanges between participants.


CONCLUSION AND VOTE OF THANKS

Finally, Dr. Gautam Kumar Sarma showed the participants a short demonstration for easy access to available/subscribed e-books on the Central Library webpage.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Anuj Kumar Singh, expressing gratitude to all participants, supporting staff and the resource person for their valuable contributions.
