Library Services for the Specially-abled Users

The Central Library started facilities for specially-abled users with an aim to empower and encourage the users with specially-abled to easily access the library resources.


INAUGURATION OF THE SPECIAL SECTION
The Central Library has a separate section named as Visually Impaired section/Braille Section, particularly for the users with visual impairments. It was inaugurated by Prof. Bijoy Boruah, Adjunct professor of Philosophy, IIT Delhi in 2018.

This section consists of having a well-furnished room with one computer connected to the internet and is reserved for users with visual impairments. For easy accessibility of resources, the computer has a Refreshable Braille display (FOCUS40 Blue) Keyboard and JAWS (Job Access With Speech) Screen reader software aiming to help the visually impaired user with reading and writing through the Braille keyboard.


SPECIAL/ BRAILLE COLLECTION
Currently, the Library has a total 241 numbers of Braille collections of books, journals, and magazines. Out of the total available Braille documents, 212 were gifted by Prof. Kishori Mohan Bhattacharya of Gauhati University and handed over to the Librarian in the presence of Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. D.K. Bhattacharya, Dr. Biren Das, Registrar and Dr. Mukesh Saikia University Librarian of Tezpur University. Along with that, one (01) Braille document published by Tezpur University which contains the information about the Tezpur University.

COMPUTER SYSTEM FACILITY
A computer system with an internet connection having JAWS software or the visually special-abled users.


WHEEL-CHAIR FACILITY
A special wheelchair has also been provided to the physically special users to easily access the library which is assisted by an attendant.


WASHROOM FACILITY
A special washroom facility is available for the specially-abled users which is located on the Ground Floor.


RAMP AT ENTRANCE/ READING HALLS AREA
For easy movement of specially-abled users, the library has a ramp provision at the entrance of the library and also in the reading hall areas with railing in side.


BRALLIE MAP
A specially designed guide map is prepared for the specially-abled users which is available on the entrance notice board. Users can easily access this map to get information about the facilities available in the Central Library.
